but it really turned into a ridiculous time. I understand that watching movies like these are probably not as entertaining if you don’t know the people being filmed, but I hope most college aged kids can appreciate the special feeling of parties such as these. Take us is one of my favorites. The choice of the Verve Pipe song in the second half of the montage is a little cliche, but it fits perfectly so who really cares. For a while we were posting pictures on VTsFinest at least once or twice a week, and this was a collection of some of our favorites from the entire freshman year. Obviously something like this has more of a value to us than to outside viewers, but I think its a great good representation of the crazieness that is freshman year @ college that most everyone experiences in one way or another.

Week After watching this for the first time in a few years, I just realized how ridiculous his reaction was when he returns to the room. It may seem like a total set up, but this kid’s room really was painted pink 100% without his knowledge. He seems to just be realllllly bad at acting genuine. The paint job is supreme (apologies on the temporarily inappropriate slur). I think if nothing else, they should all be applauded for seeing this through to the extent they did. Most of the pranks I remember doing lost steam if we had to do more than 5 minutes work.

Digging really don’t care if you have a 20 page paper to write, or if you think your professor is an unfair asshole. Each night (or early morning ;P) you go to bed, if you ever regret being at college even just for that one day, remind yourself that you should be happy and proud of where you are in life. For when you are older and you are sitting at your desk or wherever you end up, you will look back on college as a whole not by each individual day. The bad days are forgotten and the good ones are remembered (most of them!) and thus is the key to living a great college life. At least I think…it really might not be a good idea to trust my judgment as I DID lipsync on video to a song about breakfast cereals.” @ 5:10 on are worth the viewing alone. Not sure if this video is advertising alcohol or advocating abstinence from it, but I think a sound argument can be made for either. Definitely something to save for the kids in 25 years or so.

Sat, 15 Nov 2008 00:14:00 commercials, we were inspired to make our own as an ode to their genius. I really think the premise is great, with just a few negatives on the technical side of it (crappy sound, shooting subjects with the camera facing the light, etc.), but I am really proud of the originality and great use of what video editing tools we had. I’ll post the blooper reel later which to this day still makes me LOL. My favorite part is towards the end when Powell is talking to himself and has an Oscar-worthy emotional performance. Also, the music choice (Girl from Ipanema), really does the trick.

Thu, 06 Nov 2008 16:11:20 sitting at my desk with my webcam. We lack any real props (not that you can call cereal bowls and gallons of milk props), but I still find it fascinating how entertaining lipsyncing could be. I don’t remember either one of us ever having to memorize the lyrics, so I guess Boyz In The Hood is one of those songs you just seem to know. Watching it over again, I think the mere fact that I am posting this video is a good indicator of my sheer lack of public embarrassment consciousness.

Fri, 31 Oct 2008 08:27:08 intense music or the wild expressions on everyone’s faces, but watching this is an experience every time. I am a big advocate for people randomly filming nights out with their friends, and this video is definitely a testament to that. I remember it somehow being a big deal (in a good way) to everyone that we brought a camera along, and for some of us, it was a helpful way to remember the next morning why we had bruises on our elbows and rug burns on our legs.

Wed, videos from VT’sFinest get me feeling nostalgic, but I would have to say this is one of the few videos that still really makes me laugh. Public embarrassment is always such a great form of entertainment, especially when you have someone like Crazy Mark involved. I wish we had someone taping at the front to get a different angle, and more importantly, to film the reactions of the students in this class, but when you are shooting something guerrilla style you have to take what you can get!

Week 3: up becoming something really memorable to us. We had a few friends together in a dorm room with a beer pong table and alcohol and not much else, and that was the perfect recipe for a good time. Something I have noticed about looking back on these videos is that our production values were nonexistent (especially compared to what people are putting together these days online), but the simple mash ups of video and music are like a moving scrapbook of a time when the biggest thing we had to worry about was how we were going to get beer and bring it back to our dorms on a random college night.

Week frameborder="0">

Week 2: Happy Holidays
I remember posting this video right before Christmas break our freshman year. We had a few days of good flurries and this one evening of heavy snow. It’s sort of an understood tradition at Virginia Tech that at the first snow, all the freshman in the dorms on campus head down to the drillfield to battle the Corp of Cadets in a massive snowball fight. The Corp of Cadets try to do their best real American warrior bit, but in the end the sheer number of freshman pouring out of the dorms is enough to eliminate any chance of CoC success. There are some shots of this snowball fight, but they don’t really do it justice. I also remember someone taking off the door to someone’s mini-fridge, and using that as a sled down the steps on campus. Funny how innovative we can be with stuff like that. Watching this now, I realize how unimpressive our infatuation with bush diving really was, but it was something crazy and fun to us regardless. I think I enjoy movies we made like this one, because we basically just ran around with a camera filming a fun evening together. The stuff may look rather pointless and silly, but we weren’t aiming for Hollywood stuntman appeal or even Jackass type material. Just a few friends documenting their carefree collegiate times, and loving every minute of it. :)

Fri, 03 Oct 2008 11:44:00
VT’sFinest.com was originally founded in August/September 2003 by a few enterprising freshman attending Virginia Tech. The main purpose of the site was to entertain people all over the world through a variety of mediums including video, audio, image, and text. Over these students’ college careers from dorm rooms to apartments, VT’sFinest was able to expand its reach and visitor base from a few hundred visitors a month to over a million. Their videos were played and enjoyed by a global audience, some receiving media attention from national news publications, booming web portals, and regional radio syndications. As the college years went by, the founders found themselves with increasingly busier schedules and workloads, and thus a vast amount of effort and attention was pulled from maintaining their once thriving homegrown website. A year and a half had gone by since graduation, and the once close knit crew was now scattered across the country, all off on their own journeys into the working world. One afternoon, the two founders were able to reminisce on their collegiate years and the good times VT’sFinest was able to provide for them. They decided to resurrect the now-dormant website, and bring back the videos, images, and words that once entertained so many. That afternoon was today, and this is that resurrection…
